[REVIEW:] Dell Photo All In One A922 Printer Review – Boosh News

Posted on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 in Printers, Reviews
Viewed 97 times, 1 so far today

Dell’s Photo All-in-One Printer A922 is a budget color inkjet multifunction machine that has a flatbed scanner which is based on the Lexmark X5270. Even though Dell rates the A922’s print rate at a speedy 19 pages per minute (ppm) in monochrome as well as a quick 14ppm in color, it turned out to be one of the slowest printing, though quickest scanning, multifunction inkjets we’ve tested. For low cost and excellent flatbed scanning, copying and image-manipulation applications, the Photo All-in-One Printer A922 is a nice choice. However, if you would like rapid printing and/or state-of-the-art fax options, you would be best looking somewhere else. — Boosh News

While most of us produce an occasional flurry of snapshot-sized or picture-frameable prints, some photographers are in the business of generating dozens, scores, or hundreds of prints at one go. Part of the package—and fun—of event photography (weddings, bar mitzvahs, trade shows, business meetings, school pageants, costume parties, and so on) is passing out or selling just-shot photos to attendees and guests. — Sally Weiner Grotta and Daniel Grotta

Despite the fact that inkjets were available in the 1980s, it was only in the 1990s that rates reduced enough to bring the technology to the common market. Canon claims to have invented what it terms “bubble jet” technology in 1977, when a inventor by chance touched an ink-filled syringe with a hot soldering iron. The high temperature pressured a globule of ink out of the needle and therefore began the development of a new printing method Images are produced by spraying colored ink via pores. — Gadgets News & Reviews

[REVIEW:] Top 5 inkjet printers – PC World

Posted on Saturday, May 1, 2010 in Printers, Reviews

Ranging from $100 to $230, these inkjet printers from Canon, Epson, and HP differ in speed, print quality, paper capacity, and features. In addition to whether you need Wi-Fi or wired Ethernet or just USB, consider whether you’ll sacrifice print quality for print speed. Also consider how much you’re willing to spend on ink: costs per four-color page range from about 7 cents to nearly 20. Most of all, think about where print quality is most important for you: text, graphics, landscape photos, or photos of people. You can’t have it all. — PC World

[REVIEW:] Photo Book Review – Creating Digital Photobooks – Conrad J. Obregon (Photofocus)

Posted on Thursday, April 29, 2010 in Books, Reviews

Even after he retired, my father, who was a printer, kept setting type for another printer who specialized in self-published books. Also, a relative self-published a boring book of his ideas on geo-politics which everyone in the family was forced to read. I developed a disdain for so called “vanity books.” That is, until I held my first self-published Blurb book of photographs in my hand, and marveled that I had created a book. What was even better was that it only cost me $22.50 and that I didn’t have an attic full of copies that I had to buy to make a production run from a printing press. — Conrad J. Obregon
