Pentax has recently released a new SLR, the Pentax K-x. And while it is positioned at the entry-level market and very competitively priced, it is yet rumoured to have a very good noise performance.

After having done all my lab tests, I may say that the rumors are not true.   — Falk Lumo

The Pentax K-x is an incredible machine for an entry level SLR. Here, I will look at the image quality which its sensor can produce.

In my lumolab testings, I will not report about ergonomics or lack of features etc. The internet is full of this easily obtained information and I will refrain from duplicating it here.   — Falk Lumo

[REVIEW:] Canon 5D Mark II Autofocus Sucks? NOT!!! – Paul Burwell (WildShots)

I’ve recently had the opportunity to start going through some of my pictures that I made during my recent Spirit Bear Tour.  While I normally prefer to photograph with my Canon 1Ds Mark II, I decided to take a chance and exclusively use my new Canon 5D Mark II for the majority of the trip.  My original intention in purchasing the camera was the use it primarily for its high-definition video abilities, but I’ve been extremely impressed with the quality of the stills it produces and its high ISO performance is simply amazing.   — Paul Burwell

[REVIEW:] Hands On with the Nikon D3S – Zach Honig (PC Magazine)

Nikon gave a handful of journalists a sneak peek at the Nikon D3S digital-SLR camera; it was announced last week and is expected to be released in late November with a $5,199.95 (body only) list price.

I was invited to join Nikon to shoot with a production-model D3S at the Big Apple Circus, which opens to the public tomorrow evening. I’ve spent time with other professional Nikon SLR cameras over the years, including the D3 and every other Nikon D-SLR, and the D3S’s interface felt incredibly familiar and just as intuitive as that of the D3.   — Zach Honig

At PMA2009, Sigma announced an update to their telephoto zoom lens, in the form of the 50-200mm ƒ/4-5.6 DC OS HSM. The previous version of the lens was a 55-200mm zoom, upgraded once to incorporate an in-lens motor, and then again to provide optical stabilization.

With its DC specification, the lens was designed specifically to fit the APS-C sensor, making it incompatible with film or full-frame digital camera bodies. On a Canon body the lens offers 80-320mm range; on Nikon and others, the lens offers 75-300mm range. This lens isn’t a "constant" lens, in that as you increase the focal length, the largest aperture rating increases. The following table reflects the changes:…-  — Andrew Alexander

Targeted at the professional segment both cameras offer high sensitivity (up to a whopping ISO 102400) as well as high burst speeds for those determined to get a fine slice of every moment.   — DigitalRev

Lots of photographers would like to own a really wide angle, fish-eye lens, but there has always been one major roadblock standing in the way: the price tag. These optical devices are complicated to design and build, and that complexity is ultimately reflected in the cost.   — Joe Farace

Boasting the highest resolution available in a 35mm size DSLR, the latest Sony camera is also the most affordable full-frame model on the market. Priced to sell at about $700 less than the Sony A900, the Nikon D700 and the Canon EOS 5D Mk II, the A850 is a downright bargain (from Amazon Sony Alpha DSLRA850 24.6MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only); from B&H Photo).   — Peter K.
