In 2003, Nikon was the first of the major manufacturers to introduce an ultra-wide angle zoom lens for cropped sensor digital camera bodies, with the 12-24mm ƒ/4 DX. Two years later, Sigma produced a zoom lens that could go even wider: the 10-20mm ƒ/4-5.6. Tamron and Tokina quickly followed suit. -Andrew Alexander
