[REVIEW:] LA by Hans-Christian Schink – Joerg Colberg (Conscientious)
Being familiar with Hans-Christian Schink’s wonderful Traffic Projects (see some of the images from the book here), finding LA was a bit of a surprise for me (even though I should have known from his most recent work – examples in the top row on this page that Schink is not a large-format one-trick pony). -Joerg Colberg

[REVIEW:] Nikon D3000 Brief hands-on – Richard Butler (dpreview)
Rumors of a D3000 have been circulating for some time now and you don’t have to be clairvoyant to foresee that the Nikon’s least expensive DSLR needed an update. The D40, which held this position for over two and a half years (an impressive feat in such a fast-moving market segment) is finally disappearing from the shelves to begin building up ‘classic’ status among the million-plus users for whom it represented their first DSLR experience. Even the more recent the D60 has been on the market for more than 18 months (having itself been little more than a position-clarifying rebadging of the D40X introduced in March 2007) and has only just been jostled out of its position by the D5000. -Richard Butler

[REVIEW:] Epson WorkForce 310 All-In-One – M. David Stone (PCMag)
Viewed 84 times
Inexpensive all-in-ones (AIOs) in the Epson WorkForce 310 All-In-One’s price class ($129.99 direct, which includes a standard 1-year warranty) have traditionally been aimed primarily at home use. The reason for this is simple, it’s hard to build an AIO for that price with both speed and output quality suitable for business use on the one hand, and with all the office-centric features it needs—from fax capability to an automatic document feeder (ADF)—on the other. As its name implies, however, the WorkForce 310 is meant primarily for office use, or, more precisely, for a home office or micro office. -M. David Stone

[REVIEW:] Samsung SL820 – PJ Jacobowitz (PCMag)
Samsung’s 12.2-megapixel SL820 ($279.99 list) is a good choice for photographers looking for big features at a competitive price. The camera offers a large, contrast-rich LCD, 720p30 high definition video capture, a 5x optical zoom lens—and it takes terrific pictures. While it is a solid camera, a bulky build and a few minor issues hold the SL820 back from true greatness. -PJ Jacobowitz

[REVIEW:] Photoshop CS4 Down and Dirty Tricks – Review by Richard Broom
This book was, I’m sure, purposefully written for me!
And if, like me, you don’t have much time for anything, let alone reading a book – then this could be the book for you too.
I’m a ‘dipper in’ kind of person and what I do with Scott Kelby’s books by and large is dip into them when I’ve got a spare five minutes and dip out when something else comes up. -Richard Broom

[REVIEW:] Nikon 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED AF-S DX Nikkor – Andrew Alexander
In 2003, Nikon was the first of the major manufacturers to introduce an ultra-wide angle zoom lens for cropped sensor digital camera bodies, with the 12-24mm ƒ/4 DX. Two years later, Sigma produced a zoom lens that could go even wider: the 10-20mm ƒ/4-5.6. Tamron and Tokina quickly followed suit. -Andrew Alexander
