It would seem that both photographers and patrons of photography could benefit from reading interviews about photography with both prominent photographers and purchasers of photography. That is the premise of Image Makers, Image Takers. -Conrad J. Obregon

REVIEW: Canon PowerShot SD990 IS – Mike Tomkins (imaging resource)

Canon’s PowerShot SD990 IS digital camera replaces the company’s previous PowerShot SD950 IS model as the flagship of the Digital ELPH lineup. The Canon SD990 retains the same 1/1.7-inch CCD image sensor size, but jams in more pixels to take the camera from 12.1 to 14.7 megapixels, along with upgrading the previous model’s DIGIC III processor to a DIGIC 4 type that allows for servo-AF tracking. -Mike Tomkins

REVIEW: Sony 50mm f/1.8 SAM SAL-50F18 (Tested) – Andrew Alexander

Sony announced its new 50mm ƒ/1.8 prime lens in May 2009, designed specifically for APS-C sensors. When mounted on such a camera, the lens will provide an equivalent field of view of 75mm.
The lens takes 49mm filters and does not ship with a lens hood (nor does one appear to be available for this lens). It will be available for approximately $150. -Andrew Alexander

REVIEW: Casio Exilim EX-S12 Review – Cliff Smith (TrustedReviews)

Casio continues to demonstrate that when it comes to cramming as much camera as possible into the smallest space possible, nobody does it better. With the exception of a couple of remarkable high-speed super-zoom models, the company’s Exilim camera range is full of tiny high-performance ultra-compact cameras that are usually of high quality, and are nearly always good value for money. It continues to surprise me that their market share is so low. -Cliff Smith

REVIEW: Samsung WB500 – Digital Camera Review – LetsGoDigital

Samsung did not really stand out during Photokina 2008. For Samsung, this huge 2-year event, giving the visitor the opportunity to smell, taste and see photography all around, seemed to be a show where only the Samsung prototype camera (now called Samsung WB500) was showcased. Surprising at the very least; while Samsung considers itself a strong market conqueror. Six months later, during PMA 2009 in Las Vegas, I did not only come across a full version of the prototype in question; it turned out that at the same time, an entirely new series of compact cameras has been introduced, accompanied by the official introduction of the Samsung NX concept. The latter is a future hybrid digital camera with a so-called DX image sensor. We expect more to be revealed this summer. -LetsGoDigital

REVIEW: Photography After Frank by Philip Gefter – Shane Godfrey

A few weeks ago Conscientious (I think) posted that Photography After Frank was on sale from the Aperture Foundation for twenty bucks. I felt like I was in a bit of a photo theory slump after graduating so I picked it up with free two day shipping (woohoo). I started reading it about a week ago and have made it half way through. Though I have not completed the book, I feel as though my review won’t change much once I reach the end (if I ever do). -Shane Godfrey

Leading the pack of fresh 2009 Digital ELPHs is the new PowerShot SD970 IS packing 12 megapixels, 5X optical zoom, a big 3 inch LCD and a slightly reworked user interface. Oh, there are also a few new bells and whistles, namely; auto scene detection, blink detection and Active Display for shaking your way through photos in playback. There are also two other things: Zoom Blur and Creative Light Effect, both of which are exclusive to the SD970 only. -Brad Soo

REVIEW: Fuji Finepix S1500 Review – Cameras.co.uk
Viewed 7 times, 1 so far today
The Fuji Finepix S1500 is a compact digital camera offering extra zoom. It has 10 megapixels and a 12x optical zoom lens. In terms of design it falls between two stools. It is not as large as cameras offering extreme zoom, but it is not as small as many cameras offering around the same amount of zoom. Key features include manual exposure controls, image stabilisation and a 2.7 inch LCD screen. -Cameras.co.uk
